What's the difference between JPEG and TIFF Files and why does TwistedPapers use TIFFs on its CDs? JPEG, sometimes referred to as JPG, is probably the most popular and compatible image format around. JPEG is the standard file format of most of today's consumer quality digital cameras and is supported by almost all of today's imaging software. JPEG, however, uses what is called lossy compression, meaning that some image data is lost when the file is compressed. The amount of compression can be varied, the more compression the more data is discarded and the smaller a file becomes. Each time you save a JPEG file more data is lost. JPEG is great for creating smaller file sizes for uploading on the Internet, or for use with e-mail but when quality is paramount, it leaves a lot to be desired.

TIFF format is the standard for most commercial and professional printing needs. TIFF is a great choice for archiving images when all detail must be preserved and file size is not a consideration. TIFF files are much larger in size compared to JPEGs, however. This is the best format if you plan to edit the files. Also, because TIFF files don't use compression they do not degrade in quality each time the file is edited and resaved.

This is why you will find that our CDs do not contain as many files as some of the others offered on the internet. Our images are almost always full-size and TIFF formatted. They will print beautifully with great detail and brilliant color (when applicable) and can stand up to repeated editing.

    What is your Angel Policy?

We are an angel company.  So, you can use our images in your artwork and creations and sell them freely.

We encourage artists to use our images in their work and manipulate them as they see fit.  We have no problem with the artist resizing them, changing the color, distorting the image, subtracting a part and whatever else you could think of using your imaging program on your computer.

The vintage images on our site are in the public domain and there is NO copyright on them individually--NO ONE can copyright anything that is already in the public domain.  All of the images we sell are retouched to the extent of removing spots, torn edges, sharpened, and color corrected if they look faded. This does not constitute Twisted Vintage Images or Twisted Papers as having a copyright on them. The images can be used in any manner that is legal. You can use the images to designing a website or post them on your blog.

On our CDs and our collage sheet it is the "compilation" and the arrangement of the images that is copyrighted.  Our only limitation is that you cannot copy the CD or the collage sheet and resell the CD or the collage sheet as your own.  You can use the images in your art creations and sell the created pieces freely.  If your art creation is published, please list TwistedPapers as a source for any images used.  Again, the images individually cannot be copyrighted, as they are in the public domain.

The original background art images can be used in your artwork, art creations, websites, blogs, designs and craft projects and you can sell the created pieces freely.  As we own the copyright on these images, credit should be given to TwistedPapers as the source when your creation is published.  You cannot resell just a copy of the original background--for example printing copies of the background art and selling them as background paper to a retail store or website.  However, you can make as many copies of the original background art as you need for your own art projects and if you are teaching a class and need them as class materials.

Do you have a mailing list? Yes!

At the bottom of every page on the website is a link to subscribe to our monthly newsletter. Informative articles, special features and free downloads are offered monthly.

Do you have a retail store? No. We are exclusively an internet retailer. However, there are a number of retail stores that are carrying our CDs. Write us for the locations of the stores.

You still haven't answered my question. What should I do now? Please browse our website to see if we have the answer to your question cited. If not, then Click here for contact information. We look forward to hearing from you.
